Russian Art: Itinerants (Передвижники)

A great way to introduce Russian art, this unit consists of three parts united by the theme of the Peredvizhniki (Itinerants). Part I features the painting A Girl with Peaches by Valentin Serov and assignments based on the painting. In Part II, learners will work with two paintings by Ilya Repin and read the artist’s biography. Part III is based on the article about Peredvizhniki and contains several lexical and grammatical exercises. Parts I and II can be used with students who achieved a novice-high level of proficiency in Russian. Part III is for more advanced learners.

The unit can be easily adapted for individual study.

A key is printed on the final page.

The unit is a co-production of Russian Life magazine and TeachRussian.org and sponsored by the Russkiy Mir Foundation.
